MELAKA, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) booked their place in the Malaysia Cup semifinals after defeating Melaka FC 3-1 in the second leg of the quarter-final at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong here tonight.
The win saw JDT advance to the semifinals with an overwhelming 8-1 aggregate victory.
Playing in front of about 2,000 spectators, JDT showed their intent early by opening the scoring in the seventh minute when Corbin Ong calmly finished off a pass from Jairo De Macedo Da Silva.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their lead in the 30th minute through Jairo De Macedo, who latched onto a pass from Joao Figueiredo to beat the Melaka FC defence.
JDT then tightened their grip on the match as De Macedo headed home his second goal of the night in the 54th minute to put the tie firmly beyond the hosts.
Melaka FC eventually pulled one back in the closing stages when Ahmed Ayman Shamsaldin finished off a pass from Che Rashid Che Halim.
JDT will now play KL City FC in the last four of the competition.
