IPOH, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- A furniture processing and manufacturing factory that had been operating without a licence for the past year was raided and items worth more than RM700,000 were seized in an integrated operation in Kuala Kangsar this morning.
Northern Brigade Commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) Ulu Kinta, SAC Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said the 10.30 am operation, which also involved the Royal Malaysia Police, the Kuala Kangsar District Forestry Office, the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPKK) and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) , resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old local man believed to be the owner of the premises.
“Inspection at the premises found that the owner failed to produce a permit or licence to establish and operate the furniture factory as provided under Section 3(1) of the Perak Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1987,” he said in a statement.
He said preliminary investigations found that the premises had been operating since early 2025 without valid approval and licence from the authorities.
He added that checks also revealed the owner had previously been issued two reminder notices to apply for a licence by the Kuala Kangsar District Forestry Office but failed to comply with the directive.
During the raid, various machines and equipment used to process and manufacture furniture, assorted plywood boards and semi-finished furniture were seized, with an estimated total value of RM734,990.
“The case has been handed over to the Kuala Kangsar District Forestry Office and investigations will be conducted under Section 3(1) of the Perak Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1987. MPKK has also issued two compounds to the owner for offences of not displaying a business signboard and not having a business licence,” he said.
