GEORGE TOWN, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- An elderly man was killed after his Toyota Vios veered off the road at Desa Mawar, Farlim here today.
The victim, Lim Soon Teik, 67, sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) John Sagun Francis, said they received an emergency call at 9.37 am and arrived to find the car off the road with the victim badly injured.
"The victim received initial treatment from the medical team at the scene but later succumbed to his injuries.
“The Fire and Rescue team extricated the body, and it was sent to Penang Hospital, completing the operation by 11.05 am,” he said in a statement today.
In a separate incident, a man died after falling into a three-metre-deep drain on Jalan Sungai Daun, Nibong Tebal, near here last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted at 11.12 pm, but the victim, R. Mahendran, 61, had already been pulled from the drain by the public. His body was later handed over to the authorities for a post-mortem.
