JAKARTA, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Faizuddin Centre of Educational Excellence (FCoEE) is hosting an international conference in Medan, Indonesia, aimed at empowering the asnaf community to break free from the cycle of poverty.
FCoEE chairman, Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin, said the 'International Conference on Holistic Opportunities for Poverty Empowerment' (ICOHOPE), from Sept 25 to 27, will be attended by researchers and academics from Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
"With the theme Empowering Asnaf Through Multidisciplinary Approaches, this conference is hoped to be able to collect relevant data that can help asnaf to improve their lives," he told Bernama here.
According to him, ICOHOPE will explore various areas, including education, entrepreneurship, technology, health sciences, and asnaf development, providing a platform to share knowledge and devise new strategies for uplifting low-income communities.
“We also hope that with the data collected, we can establish an asnaf research centre in Malaysia in the near future,” he added.
Kamarudin said the conference will feature several distinguished keynote speakers, including Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor, President of Fatani University, Thailand, Associate Professor Dr Ismail Lutfi Japakiya, and Founder and Chairman of Daffodil Family, Daffodil International University, Bangladesh, Dr Md Sabur Khan.
He also highlighted that this year, FCoEE awarded 36 research grants worth RM7,000 each, compared to 15 grants last year.
“Every research outcome must be presented at both national and international levels,” he said.
In conjunction with ICOHOPE, the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, will receive honorary awards from several Indonesian universities in recognition of their contributions to educational development, including the founding of FCoEE.
Since its establishment in 2022, FCoEE has demonstrated a strong commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s education sector, particularly in Perlis.
The centre supports the national education system by providing added value and fostering a sustainable educational community, integrating smart and traditional learning methods, and emphasising practical programs to produce competitive and highly employable graduates.
