JAKARTA, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, granted an audience to Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, here to discuss opportunities for collaboration in higher education in the republic.

As the Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Tuanku Syed Faizuddin spent about half an hour with the minister, accompanied by UniMAP Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Ir Dr Mohd Shukry Abdul Majid.

Speaking after the meeting, Brian said there was potential for various fields, especially in engineering and nanotechnology, to be further developed in collaboration with UniMAP.

“I know of several advancements made by UniMAP in these fields, as I have personal experience working with one of the professors there.

“We hope there will be many collaborations, from joint degree and double degree programmes to the possibility of scholarships for Indonesian students to pursue their master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) studies at UniMAP,” he said.

Brian added that other forms of collaboration, including visiting professor programmes, were welcomed by his side to enhance the quality of higher education in both countries.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shukry said UniMAP was very pleased to continue strengthening ties in academic fields, research, and human capital development between Malaysia and Indonesia.

“We proposed several forms of strategic collaboration that we believe will bring mutual benefits, including postgraduate study opportunities (S2 and S3) at UniMAP with a group discount scheme for lecturers and students.

“We also proposed that efforts to promote undergraduate studies at UniMAP be intensified among Indonesian students, especially in Engineering and Technology, which are our areas of strength,” he said, adding that UniMAP hoped for collaboration in research and innovation, particularly in green technology, semiconductors, nanotechnology, and the global sustainability agenda.
