KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- DAP has confirmed that it will field candidates in 17 seats in the upcoming Johor state election.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the 17 seats comprise 10 seats the party won in the previous election, four seats it previously contested but lost, and an additional three new target seats.

“We have mentioned that we will defend all the seats that we won last election. We won 10 last election and we contested 14 last election. So, the four that we contested last round will be contested again.

“We are looking at additional three other seats. So, all in we are looking at contesting 17 seats,” he told a press conference after launching the DAP 60 Years Journey Documentary in the Federal Territories here today.

Loke also said DAP would defend all 11 of its Negeri Sembilan state seats.

Loke added that the decision to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was made by consensus among the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state leadership.

He also criticised claims by former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli that the dissolution was allegedly driven by pressure from DAP, describing the allegation as baseless.

“It is total nonsense to say that this is a pressure from DAP... All in PH Negeri Sembilan, be it PKR, be it DAP, be it Amanah, are all for a dissolution,” he said.

Loke nevertheless assured that political dynamics and competition at state level would not affect working relations or the functioning of the Federal Government, which remains stable and operating as usual.
