KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The city of Ipoh, Perak, will take centre stage for educators nationwide as it hosts the 55th national-level Teachers’ Day celebration, which will be held over two days starting tomorrow.
Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, speaking as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme on Tuesday said the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Guru Bitara Nadi Negara’, highlighting the role of teachers as key role models or ‘bitara’ in shaping quality human capital that will form the backbone of the nation’s economy and social stability.
He said the role is in line with the ministry’s efforts to position teachers as strategic drivers in producing future generations who are competitive, skilled and capable of facing global challenges through the Malaysia Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035.
This is in line with Strategic Thrust 3 of the plan, which focuses on transforming educators into more capable, future-oriented professionals.
The theme also reflects appreciation for the teaching profession as a key driver of national progress and well-being.
The concept of ‘Guru Bitara’ refers to educators who have attained the highest level of professionalism, integrity and exemplary conduct, while the phrase ‘Nadi Negara’ describes teachers as the lifeblood and main driving force of a nation’s continuity.
A diverse programme line-up has been arranged by the Ministry of Education for the celebration, including a spiritual programme at the Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque (state mosque) tomorrow, to be graced by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
The programme, which includes Yasin recitation, tahlil and a special Friday khutbah, is expected to draw about 2,000 congregants.
A total of 625 educators are also expected to deliver special Friday khutbah at mosques across Perak in appreciation and recognition of their important role and contributions to society and the nation.
Educators will also be honoured at the national-level Teachers’ Day Awards ceremony to be held at Kinta Riverfront, celebrating the achievements of educators nationwide.
The highlight of the celebration will take place on Saturday and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister is expected to deliver a keynote address, which will be broadcast live on DidikTV, EduwebTV and all official ministry social media platforms, enabling educators nationwide to watch the celebration live. #terimakasihcikgu
