KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), has approved the application to host the Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2026 in Penang from Oct 3 to 10, said Malaysia Deaf Sport Association (MSDeaf) president Ong Shin Ruenn.
He said the approval, granted under the powers provided in Section 33 of the Sports Development Act 1997, was a sign of support for efforts to strengthen inclusive sports development and expand the participation of deaf athletes at the international level.
Ong said the hosting of the event is expected to serve as an important platform in empowering the development of deaf community sports in the Asia-Pacific region.
“We thank KBS and the Office of the Sports Commissioner for accepting the association’s efforts. This event will also enhance Malaysia’s image as a key destination for hosting international sporting events.
“MSDeaf is committed to ensuring that all preparations for the Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2026 run smoothly and in an orderly manner. We are confident that the games will not only strengthen the development of deaf community sports, but also have a positive impact on the overall development of national sports,” he said in a statement today.
