KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Police are investigating allegations of an attempt to bring down the government and sabotage national stability involving a prominent local individual and an international media agency.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said a report on the matter was lodged yesterday, and investigations are being carried out by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.

“The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which covers activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy, whether carried out directly or indirectly. Upon conviction, the offence carries a prison term of up to 20 years,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Khalid said investigations are ongoing and advised the public not to speculate on the matter while inquiries are being completed, in line with the principles of criminal justice in the country.
