1,357 Cases Detected During CNY 2026 SHMMP - KPDN

PUTRAJAYA, March 1 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) recorded 1,357 offences involving compounds totalling RM157,000 and seizures worth RM40,361.57 during the Chinese New Year 2026 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).

Its Enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said the cases were detected through 10,672 inspections conducted nationwide over nine days, from Feb 13 to 21.

He said the move reflected the government’s continued commitment to protecting consumers and managing the cost of living during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration that fell on Feb 17.

“KPDN intensified monitoring under the scheme to ensure price stability and curb manipulation by irresponsible traders,” he said in a statement today.

Daily inspections were carried out at strategic locations, including public markets, farmers’ markets and shopping centres, covering producers, wholesalers and retailers.

More than 2,400 enforcement officers were deployed nationwide under Ops Pantau 2026 to boost consumer confidence and remind traders to comply with regulations.

Azman added that KPDN also collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to ensure adequate supplies of essential goods such as fish and vegetables throughout the festive period.

He said the CNY 2026 SHMMP was implemented smoothly and achieved its objectives through close monitoring and positive public feedback, adding that the ministry would continue to monitor supply and prices to prevent unreasonable price increases.
