KOTA KINABALU, Feb 15 (Bernama) — Sabah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has been appointed as the new Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman.
Mustapha, who confirmed the appointment, said the decision was made during a meeting of Sabah PH component party leaders to fill the vacancy left after the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) exited the coalition in November last year.
Other appointments included Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe as deputy chairman, Abdul Razak Jamil as secretary, Datuk Chan Fong Hin as treasurer, Zaidi Jatil as youth chief, and Datuk Jannie Lasimbang as Sabah PH Women chief.
“After discussion, the meeting agreed to appoint me as the new Sabah PH chairman to fill the vacant position,” he told reporters after the meeting today.
Previously, the post was held by UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick, but became vacant following the party’s decision to leave the coalition, which also includes DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Mustapha, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), said the meeting discussed Sabah PH’s direction, with a focus on issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“We will raise important matters concerning MA63, particularly the demand for 40 per cent of Sabah’s revenue,” he said.
