KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- Former state secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali has been appointed president of the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM), effective yesterday.

MAIDAM chief executive officer Associate Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Azrin Adnan said Zulkifli, 61, replaces Datuk Shaikh Harun Shaikh Ismail, who has retired.

He said Zulkifli’s more than 30 years of experience in public service is expected to strengthen MAIDAM’s role in safeguarding, empowering and upholding Islamic affairs and Malay customs in the state, also known as Darul Iman.

“Zulkifli holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness from Universiti Putra Malaysia and has extensive working experience, including serving as Comptroller of the Royal Household, Istana Terengganu, and as a state financial officer, before retiring as state secretary.

“I am confident that this appointment will further elevate Islamic affairs in line with the aspirations of the state leadership and the well-being of the ummah,” he said in a statement today.
