Penang Port Commission Launches e-PDCFZ To Boost Port Governance, Digital Efficiency
GEORGE TOWN, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Penang Port Commission’s (PPC) newly launched E-Penang Dangerous Cargo and Free Zone (e-PDCFZ) platform marks a significant milestone in the commission’s push towards smarter and more transparent port governance.
PPC chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the digital platform strengthens port governance through a unified digital workflow, real-time monitoring and enhanced audit visibility, while laying the foundation for future-ready port operations.
“The e-PDCFZ platform officially commenced operations on May 1, 2026. The platform delivers three core benefits, namely enhanced operational efficiency, greater transparency and higher compliance standards through a structured digital regulatory mechanism.
“These capabilities are increasingly critical in addressing global supply chain restructuring, growing complexities in the shipping environment and rising sustainability expectations,” he said in a statement following the ‘Dialogue on Jointly Exploring Port AI and Digital Transformation’ held recently in Nanning, China, and officiated by Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently.
Yeoh noted that the digital platform reflects PPC’s commitment to accelerating port digitalisation and strengthening operational governance in line with Loke’s vision.
He stressed that future competition in the maritime and port economy will no longer depend solely on physical infrastructure, but increasingly on digital intelligence, governance capability and regional cooperation.
Yeoh pointed out that digital transformation must be embedded across the entire port operational value chain and closely integrated with regulatory and governance systems to deliver meaningful improvements in efficiency, transparency and compliance.
Accordingly, he said PPC remains committed to advancing smart governance and digital transformation, while looking forward to strengthening collaboration with strategic partners from China to jointly build a more resilient and sustainable regional maritime ecosystem.
Yeoh emphasised that Malaysia-China cooperation in the port and maritime sector carries strong strategic significance, as future maritime competitiveness will depend heavily on digital interoperability, intelligent logistics ecosystems, smart governance capabilities and deeper cross-border collaboration.
“PPC will continue to strengthen smart governance systems, operational integrity and sustainable maritime growth, while deepening strategic partnerships between Malaysia and China to shape the future of intelligent maritime connectivity for the next generation,” he added.
