KLCI Futures Likely To Remain Positive Next Week

By Harizah Hanim Mohamed

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contract is likely to maintain a constructive near-term outlook, supported by easing geopolitical concerns, improving global risk sentiment, and a relatively stable domestic macroeconomic environment.

IPPFA Sdn Bhd director of investment strategy and country economist Mohd Sedek Jantan said market participants, however, will continue to monitor developments surrounding global central banks and geopolitical negotiations for further direction.

“The reports that the United States and Iran are engaged in negotiations towards a potential diplomatic agreement, confirmed by Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency that discussions are underway, have fuelled optimism for a de-escalation of tensions in West Asia, lifting global equities while pushing oil prices lower,” he said.

The prospect of easing geopolitical risks should provide a supportive backdrop for regional markets, including Malaysia, he added.

Mohd Sedek also said next week’s key external event will be the Bank of Japan's policy meeting on Tuesday. On the home front, attention is on Malaysia's consumer price index data, scheduled for release on Friday.

“The inflation print will provide important clues regarding the country's fiscal trajectory and Bank Negara Malaysia’s future policy stance,” he added.

For the week just ended, the FBM KLCI futures contracts saw choppy trading in tandem with the cash market.

On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the June 2026 contract advanced 0.5 point to 1,689.5, the July 2026 contract was one point higher at 1,692, the September 2026 contract gained 1.5 points to 1,672.5, and the December 2026 contract was at 1,673.

Weekly turnover rose to 39,538 lots from 38,150 last week, while open interest contracted to 31,623 contracts from 35,257 at the preceding week’s close.

On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the FBM KLCI index fell 9.8 points to 1,683.63 from 1,693.43 a week earlier.
