Bursa Malaysia Continues Downtrend At Mid-Afternoon
KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia extended its decline into mid-afternoon trading, mirroring the broader regional weakness, as investors stayed cautious ahead of United States (US) President Donald Trump’s deadline for Iran to reach a peace agreement.
At 3.07 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 6.0 points to 1,674.83 from Monday’s close of 1,680.83.
The benchmark index earlier opened 3.22 points higher at 1,684.05.
Market breadth remained negative, with losers outnumbering gainers 544 to 301, while 537 counters were unchanged, 1,265 untraded, and 11 suspended.
Turnover totalled 1.78 billion units valued at RM1.44 billion.
Among heavyweights, IHH Healthcare advanced six sen to RM8.65, CelcomDigi added one sen to RM3.02, Maybank and Public Bank declined four sen each to RM11.18 and RM4.60, respectively, while RHB Bank was flat at RM8.14.
On the most active list, Top Glove grew half a sen to 79 sen, Tanco increased three sen to RM1.60, Reneuco shed 1.5 sen to half a sen and V.S. Industry edged down half a sen to 18.5 sen, while Astro was flat at 7.5 sen.
Among top gainers, Hong Leong Bank jumped 36 sen to RM21.60, Allianz Malaysia went up 32 sen to RM20.72, Petronas Chemicals strengthened by 22 sen to RM5.97, and TA Ann was 12 sen higher at RM5.49.
As for the top losers, Nestle shed RM1.72 to RM98.38, Malaysian Pacific Industries dipped 40 sen to RM28.90, United Plantation dropped 32 sen to RM33.88, and Petronas Gas declined 28 sen to RM17.94.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index weakened 47.63 points to 12,100.28, the FBM Emas Index slipped 48.11 points to 12,245.96, the FBM Emas Shariah Index trimmed 43.93 points to 12,120.33, the FBM ACE Index fell 28.80 points to 4,271.66, and the FBM Mid 70 Index erased 85.20 points to 16,923.28.
By sector, the Industrial Products and Services Index gained 0.50 points to 183.45, the Financial Services Index eased 56.78 points to 19,610.28, the Plantation Index gave up 28.53 points to 9,089.13, and the Energy Index slipped 0.48 points to 811.08.
