Tengku Zafrul To End Tenure As MITI Minister On Dec 2

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will end his tenure on Dec 2, 2025.

He said his final day in the ministry will coincide with the end of his service in the Dewan Negara.

“My last day in the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) is Dec 2. So legally, because I’m no longer in the Dewan Negara -- and you need to be in either Dewan to serve as a minister -- I definitely cannot continue to serve as a minister,” he told a press conference on MITI's report card for the third quarter of 2025.

Tengku Zafrul said he is willing to assist his successor in the transition as the new minister.

When asked if he would remain in an advisory role, he said there had been no discussion on the matter to-date.

“There is no discussion yet. But if there is a need, I have already discussed this with the Prime Minister and stated my intention to continue to assist.

“So now we are waiting for the Prime Minister’s decision. I don’t think the Prime Minister has made a decision yet about my role after this,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul, who has served as senator for two terms since 2020, will complete his six-year tenure in the Dewan Negara on Dec 2.
