AI Adoption By Enterprises In Asia Pacific Widespread -- Snowflake CEO

From Nor Baizura Basri

SAN FRANCISCO, June 3 (Bernama) -- Artificial intelligence (AI) adoption by enterprises in the Asia Pacific, including ASEAN, is currently widespread, eventually gaining some traction.

Snowflake chief executive officer (CEO) Sridhar Ramaswamy said this is in line with enterprises’ aspirations to become more streamlined, taking into account the technological advancements that can help with a better operational system.

“Yes, I think AI adoption absolutely is widespread because every company wants to be efficient. When it comes to Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) investments, we have a big presence in countries like Japan, Australia and India, and we are definitely investing more in areas like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

“We have an office in Singapore (with) a great team and are keen to do more business there (ASEAN),” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Snowflake Summit 2025 held at Moscone Centre here.

According to the Boston Consulting Group, despite North America being the world’s leader in technology adoption, Asia-Pacific (APAC) is narrowing the gap, particularly in terms of generative AI (GenAI).

The management firm’s research indicated that, across the region, the perceived value of generative technologies is higher than in Europe and is just a percentage point behind that of North America.

In both North America and the Asia-Pacific, 16 per cent of organisations are finding proven value with AI -- but the APAC region is investing more heavily overall.

This is also seen as timely, as ASEAN countries are embracing AI, which could potentially increase the ASEAN economy by 10 per cent to 18 per cent, or close to US$1 trillion by 2030 (US$1=RM4.21).

Therefore, Snowflake, the global cloud data company, with a base in Singapore, joined the bandwagon with other international companies that had expressed interest in the region.

On Monday, Snowflake, which has a net worth of US$70.12 billion as of June 2, 2025, announced its intention to acquire Crunchy Data, a startup that offers cloud-based database software.

Apart from this, the company also announced its new agentic AI innovation -- Snowflake Intelligence, which offers business users and data professionals a unified conversational experience, powered by intelligent data agents, to ask natural language questions and instantly uncover actionable insights from both structured tables and unstructured documents.

Akin to “ChatGPT”, Snowflake Intelligence, however, offers more customised solutions according to customers' needs, making AI and machine learning (ML) workflows easily connected and trusted for both technical and non-technical users.

The company also unveiled Data Science Agent, an agentic companion that boosts data scientists’ productivity by automating routine ML model development tasks, enabling users to simplify their AI and ML workflows, democratise access to data across their businesses and eliminate the technical overhead that slows down business decision-making -- all through natural language interactions within Snowflake.
