Prosecution Rejects Woman's Representation To Drop Charge Over Attempted Assault On Sultan Nazrin

IPOH, July 1 (Bernama) -- The prosecution has rejected a representation by a woman seeking to have a charge of using criminal force against the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebration last year withdrawn.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani informed the court of the decision during the mention of the case involving Nurhaswani Afni Mohamad Zorki, 41, before Magistrate Norizan Ridzuan, who fixed July 6 for case management.

On Oct 8 last year, the same court rejected Nurhaswani Afni's guilty plea after the prosecution informed the court that a report from Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan in Ulu Kinta here stated that the accused suffered from schizophrenia and was of unsound mind at the time of the incident.

The woman was charged with using criminal force against Sultan Nazrin by attempting to assault His Royal Highness in front of Dewan Bandaran Ipoh, Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, at 8.20 am on Aug 31, 2025.

The charge was framed under Section 352 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both, upon conviction.

On Sept 8, 2025, she was brought before the same court, but no plea was recorded after the accused was ordered to undergo examination and observation at Hospital Bahagia for one month under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
