KOTA TINGGI, June 29 (Bernama) -- Bridging development gaps and attracting high-impact investment to stimulate the local economy are key priorities for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Johor Lama state seat, Danish Hossman Abd Rahman.

Campaigning under the slogan “Wajah Baharu, Johor Lama” (A New Face, Johor Lama), Danish has pledged to create more job opportunities and reduce young people’s reliance on employment in urban centres or abroad if given a mandate in the 16th Johor state election.

He said stronger coordination between the state and federal governments is essential to ensure the smooth implementation of policies and development projects.

“We should not only focus on areas such as Johor Bahru, Tebrau and Kulai. Felda settlements also need attention because many young people from these areas migrate to Johor Bahru or Singapore to find jobs.

“That’s why I want to bring development and investment to Johor Lama so that young people from Felda communities do not have to leave their villages just to make a living,” he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama.

Beyond economic issues, Danish, 23, the youngest candidate in the state election, is also advocating for the establishment of an Immigration Department branch office in Kota Tinggi to ease administrative processes for residents.

“There is no immigration centre in Kota Tinggi, forcing residents to travel to Johor Bahru, Kulai or Mersing, which takes a long time just to apply for passports or handle immigration matters,” he said.

On his campaign strategy, Danish said he is combining traditional face-to-face engagement with active use of social media to reach more than 32,000 voters in the constituency.

“I have no problem meeting people directly and listening to their concerns. At the same time, I also use social media for campaigning. I post updates, and the response from voters in Johor Lama has been very positive so far,” he said.

The Johor Lama state seat will see a three-cornered fight between Danish, incumbent Norlizah Noh (Barisan Nasional) and Aisah Esa (Perikatan Nasional).

Polling for the Johor state election will be held on July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
