KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- The State of Palestine said Israeli occupation forces have expanded their military control to cover as much as 70 per cent of the Gaza Strip, exacerbating forced displacement, restricting humanitarian access and worsening the humanitarian situation on the ground.

In its latest Situation Report, issued by the Government Communication Centre at the Prime Minister’s Office, it stated that shortages of essential supplies continue to place severe strain on healthcare and water services across Gaza, while access to clean and safe drinking water has become severely limited.

It said at least 72,971 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, including at least 21,638 children, while 173,128 others have been wounded.

The report said Israeli attacks had continued across Gaza over the past two weeks, causing further civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

It said about 26 Palestinians were killed during Eid al-Adha amid ongoing Israeli attacks, including strikes on tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, al-Shati refugee camp and Gaza City.

The report also said 11,200 Palestinians remain missing, while more than 1,700 health workers and 262 journalists and media workers have been killed since October 2023.

On the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, the report said 1,171 Palestinians have been killed, including 244 children, while 12,666 others have been wounded since October 2023.

It said more than 9,500 Palestinians remain imprisoned, while over 33,000 Palestinians remain displaced in Jenin and Tulkarem since January 2025.

According to the report, 1,659 attacks were documented across the occupied West Bank in May, including military incursions, land seizures, demolitions, destruction of property, restrictions on access to agricultural land and settler attacks.

The report also highlighted deteriorating conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, citing medical neglect, malnutrition, overcrowding and the spread of diseases.

It said the number of female prisoners had increased to 89, including minors, university students, pregnant women and women with serious illnesses.

On the fiscal situation, Palestinian Finance and Planning Minister Dr Estephan Salameh said the Palestinian Government was facing an unprecedented fiscal crisis due to Israel’s continued withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues for nearly a year and a half.

He said the revenues made up about 68 per cent of the Ministry of Finance’s total income, with the cumulative amount withheld estimated at around US$5.7 billion.

Salameh said the situation had placed vital sectors, particularly healthcare, education and essential public services, under severe strain.
