ASTANA, June 9 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- South Korean company Hyundai Engineering said it had been awarded a contract to build the Karachaganak Gas Processing Plant in western Kazakhstan, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
"Hyundai Engineering has received a Letter of Award (LOA) for a major gas processing plant project in Kazakhstan, further expanding its presence in Central Asia. The Karachaganak Gas Processing Plant project involves the construction of a large-scale gas processing facility and related infrastructure capable of processing up to 5 billion cubic metres of raw gas annually within the Karachaganak Processing Complex," the company said in a statement on Monday.
The statement noted that the contract strengthens Hyundai Engineering's position in all three key Central Asian markets – Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan – and thereby further enhances its position in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) region.
Karachaganak is a large oil and gas condensate field in western Kazakhstan near the town of Aksay, covering an area of over 280 square kilometres. Commercial production began in 1984, and geological reserves were estimated at more than 1.7 billion tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons and over 1.7 trillion cubic metres of gas.
