SEOUL, May 20 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- South Korea will push for the expansion of onion exports, mainly to the Southeast Asian market, amid domestic oversupply of the vegetable, the agriculture ministry said Wednesday, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ministry announced the plan as domestic supplies of onion are expected to increase by up to 5 per cent from a year earlier in 2026 and up to 8.8 per cent compared with the annual average.
Under the plan, the ministry aims to export more than 2,000 tonnes of Korean onions mainly to Taiwan and the Southeast Asian market this year.
