SAO PAULO, May 18 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Three workers were killed and three other people survived after a four-storey residential building collapsed in Salvador, the capital of Brazil's eastern state of Bahia, the fire department said Sunday, reported Xinhua.
Firefighters recovered the body of the third victim from the rubble early on Sunday in the Luis Anselmo neighbourhood, where the building collapsed on Saturday.
Authorities said a family – a man, his wife and their 18-month-old baby, was inside the building at the time, along with three workers carrying out renovations.
The family managed to escape before the collapse.
The woman was taken to a hospital and is out of danger, while the man and the baby were unharmed.
Officials said the three workers renovating the building were killed in the collapse.
Salvador's civil defence agency said that once search and rescue operations were completed, authorities would begin assessing the structure and investigating the cause of the collapse.
