FRANCE TO PRESENT FRAMEWORK FOR ITS MISSION IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ TO UN - PRESIDENT

MOSCOW, May 13 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- France will present a framework for its mission to ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to the United Nations, French President Emmanuel Macron said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

“We ... intend to present an initiative at the UN, along with several other countries, to propose an appropriate framework – absolutely neutral, peaceful, and, as they say, conflict-free – for relations with Iran," Macron told French media on Tuesday.

The French president reiterated the need to unblock the Strait of Hormuz without any additional conditions or fees.

The escalation around Iran has led to an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies from the Persian Gulf, and has also affected oil export and production levels. The blockade has caused fuel and industrial product prices to rise in most countries around the world.
