MOSCOW, May 11 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff have visited 8,000 prisoners of war in Russia and Ukraine since 2022, Rania Mashlab, head of the ICRC delegation in Moscow, said on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"We have managed to visit 8,000 prisoners of war since the beginning of the conflict on both sides, but predominantly in Ukraine. That is, the majority of those we have visited are Russian prisoners of war," she said.
ICRC staff communicate with prisoners of war regularly, Mashlab added.
"I can say that since February 2022, we have visited 8,000 prisoners of war on both sides of the front line. But I cannot provide any more specific figures; this is strictly confidential information," she said.
