PEMBROKE PINES (Florida, USA) May 11  (Bernama-Anadolu) -- A large wildfire burning in western Broward County sent heavy smoke toward the Holly Lake area of Pembroke Pines, Florida on Sunday, May 10, as multiple agencies monitored conditions near residential neighbourhoods, local authorities said, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

Pembroke Pines Police said fire-rescue crews were positioned along the perimeter of the Holly Lake community near US 27 and Pines Boulevard as the wildfire continued spreading toward nearby areas. Authorities reported that the fire had burned around 4,800 acres and remained fully uncontained as of Sunday afternoon.

Police also urged drivers to avoid the area after people stopping along nearby roads to watch the wildfire, causing traffic backups near US 27 and Pines Boulevard. Officers warned that vehicles attempting to stop along the roadway would be directed to move.

Authorities said agencies, including the Florida Forest Service, Pembroke Pines Police, Broward Sheriff’s Office and Miami-Dade teams were working together to prevent the fire from threatening nearby communities. No injuries had been reported.
