IRAN ENVOY: AGREEMENT POSSIBLE IF US ACTS RATIONALLY

TEHRAN, May 10 (Bernama-IRNA) --The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, has emphasised that if countries that have illegally committed aggression against Iran return to a rational, logic-based approach in their policies and behaviour, it will be possible to reach an agreement, The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

In an interview with Armenian television on Saturday, Shirgholami stressed that the aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran clearly demonstrated that Iran cannot be forced to surrender or accept any party’s maximum demands through military means, pressure, or threats.

He said that Iran is open to negotiating to reach an agreement, but this requires clear guarantees that the United States will adopt a rational and logical approach, ensuring that no further military aggression against Iran will occur.

Shirgholami also emphasised that Iran opposes a selective interpretation of international law and will not permit the Iranian nation to be deprived of its peaceful right to utilise nuclear capabilities.

The US and the Israeli regime launched a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran following the assassination of then Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians, on February 28.

In retaliation, Iranian Armed Forces launched attacks on American and Israeli positions in the region, demonstrating their capability to strike back effectively. Despite initial expectations by the attackers of a swift victory, the Iranian response proved significantly more potent, inflicting heavy damage on US and Israeli military resources while rallying the nation’s unity and resistance.

On April 8, a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect between Iran and the United States to allow for negotiations, partly aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the truce, US President Donald Trump imposed a blockade on Iranian ports a day later. Iran has described the blockade as a breach of the ceasefire and responded by maintaining restrictions in the strait, through which about 20 percent of global energy supplies transit.
