MELAKA, May 8 (Bernama) -- The Hasrat MADANI programme will continue in various locations nationwide as a community unification platform through various community activities including wayang pacak (outdoor movie) screenings.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the relaxed and people-friendly programme will be strengthened with the collaboration of various agencies including the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS), the Community Communications Department (J-KOM) and the Information Department of Malaysia.
"We have just done several programmes and later we will look into how to improve them, perhaps in more areas. However, it depends on the mobile units under the Information Department. We are looking at how to mobilise even though the units are not many, but they are there,” he told reporters after attending the Hasrat MADANI Programme at Taman Bachang Baru, Batu Berendam here tonight.
Also present were Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and actor Nas-T.
Fahmi said the same programme had previously been implemented in Sabah and Penang and received an encouraging response from the local community despite being held in a modest setting.
He said the wayang pacak activity with selected film screenings had successfully brought together people of various races and ages to have fun together while strengthening community ties.
“We want community programmes like these to be multiplied in our own country and brought to more areas by using existing infrastructure including the Information Department’s mobile units.
“We are also bringing in artistes and this is a good opportunity for the community to socialise with them while watching films that are supported through screenings like this,” he said.
