WASHINGTON, May 8 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The current US authorities are showing a positive attitude in relations with Russia, Russian Ambassador to the US Alexander Darchiev said.
"The most important thing is that there is a positive outlook, which contrasts with what it was four years ago under the previous administration," Darchiev told reporters in response to a question from RIA Novosti.
He said he is positive about developing the Moscow-Washington dialogue.
Darchiev said Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in their phone conversation noted the importance of the Russian-US brotherhood in arms in strengthening relations.
"In their telephone conversation, the presidents noted the importance of Russian-American brotherhood in arms as a positive development that contributes to strengthening our relations," he said.
The head of the Russian diplomatic mission said he considers this very important.
Relations between Russia and the United States are recovering, but not quickly enough, he added.
"Ties are being restored, although not as quickly as we would like, but there is an understanding," Darchiev told reporters.
He said Russia-US contacts continue, but they are not easy.
Darchiev said good personal relations between the leaders remain important for the restoration of contacts.
Victory Day contributes to the restoration of normalcy in Russian-US relations added Darchiev.
"I think we'll eventually find some kind of correct trajectory. To do this, we need to restore normalcy in our bilateral relations, and Victory Day contributes to this."
He said the US administration's attitude toward Victory Day has changed dramatically.
"The attitude of the administration's representatives toward the holiday has changed, changed radically. I have noticed that," Darchiev said.
The head of the Russian diplomatic mission explained at a reception at the embassy on the occasion of Victory Day that Immortal Regiment marches have been held in the center of the American capital and on the embassy grounds over the past two years.
"[US] administration representatives came today," Darchiev said.
