BANGKOK, May 6 (Bernama) -- Thailand will leverage the 48th ASEAN Summit, to be held from May 7 to 9 in Cebu, the Philippines, to translate regional cooperation into tangible benefits for its people.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul would lead the Thai delegation to the summit and advance key priority areas such as energy security and sustainable access to food and regional safety.

“The summit takes place amid global volatility driven by conflicts in several regions, alongside mounting geopolitical, economic and security pressures that are significantly impacting ASEAN,” she said in a statement on Wednesday.

She said discussions are expected to focus on the impact of the situation in West Asia, energy and food security, and the safety of ASEAN citizens, as well as efforts to strengthen cooperation in addressing emerging challenges and adapting to rapid global changes.

Anutin is also expected to hold both multilateral and bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the summit, she added.

The Philippines is chairing the ASEAN 2026 under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together”.
