MARKET FIRE IN SOUTHERN MYANMAR DESTROYS OVER 200 SHOPS

YANGON, April 27 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- A fire broke out at a market in Danubyu township, Ayeyarwady region, destroying 271 shops, an official from the Danubyu Township Fire Services Department told Xinhua on Monday.

The blaze started at around 6.25 am local time on Sunday and took about one hour to be brought under control, the official said.

No injuries or deaths were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he added.

The damage is estimated at over 866 million kyats (about US$412,000), he said.
