KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) is in the final stages of refining legal frameworks before tabling proposals for the Traveller Scheme and a maternity leave assistance allowance under the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) to the Cabinet.
Its minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said both initiatives are also undergoing detailed adjustments to their implementation mechanisms to ensure smooth execution.
“It will be tabled to the Cabinet soon, and the assistance mechanism is still being refined. I believe Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will make an announcement soon,” he told reporters after a dialogue session with the Concorde Club at Wisma Bernama.
The session, chaired by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, centred on the theme “Work, Wages and Future”.
Ramanan previously said the Traveller Scheme is expected to provide social protection coverage to more than 400,000 Malaysians who commute daily to work in Singapore.
He added that KESUMA is also finalising a study to expand social protection for mothers, particularly during childbirth, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the nation’s social safety net.
The proposed maternity assistance allowance under SOCSO is expected to benefit more than 100,000 mothers nationwide.
