GEORGE TOWN,  April 13 (Bernama) -- Penang will prioritise logistics planning, particularly traffic management, for the SEA Games 2027, amid ongoing large-scale infrastructure projects expected to affect movement in the state.

State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said planning for the movement of athletes, officials and supporters is being refined, taking into account several major projects currently underway.

“These include the Mutiara Line LRT project, traffic dispersal works between the Juru and Sungai Dua toll plazas, as well as the expansion of Penang International Airport,” he told reporters here today.

He was speaking after the Penang Athletes Incentive presentation ceremony and the appointment of the Penang cluster organising committee for the Malaysia SEA Games 2027, officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Gooi said spectator comfort is also being considered to ensure a smooth experience for those attending the Games.

He added that overall preparations for the Penang cluster are now in the final stage, with coordination workshops involving relevant agencies already completed.

Discussions with national sports associations will be held next to finalise technical aspects before being tabled to the Malaysia SEA Games 2027 Organising Committee (MASOC 2027).

Penang will host six sports - sepak takraw, snooker and billiards, judo, boxing, table tennis and floorball - all to be held at existing indoor venues.
