12/04/2026 06:19 PM

MAGDEBURG (Germany), April 12 (Bernama-dpa) -- The rail link between Berlin and Munich was hit by delays on Sunday after an overhead line ruptured near the city of Wittenberg, the state-run Deutsche Bahn (DB) rail company said on Sunday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

DB estimated the additional journey time between the cities at 30 minutes.

Police estimated the damage at hundreds of thousands of euros after an overhead line fell onto an ICE express service at Zahna-Elster, about 80 kilometres south-west of Berlin, on Saturday.

Two of the approximately 600 passengers aboard the train were slightly injured, and evacuation of the high-speed train was delayed by concerns over contact with the power cable.

The cause of the rupture remains unclear.
