JOHOR BAHRU, March 26 (Bernama) -- The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) Water Park here will be closed for two days starting today to make way for cleaning and maintenance work.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the management had to take action to temporarily close the recreation area due to a few visitors who were irresponsible in maintaining cleanliness and public facilities.
He said the popular location was developed by the state government together with MBJB and was opened free of charge to the Johor residents to ensure that all levels of society could enjoy a conducive and quality recreational space.
However, he said, it was very sad when some people let their children defecate everywhere and did not maintain the cleanliness of the area.
"This act not only pollutes the environment, but can also affect the health of other visitors, especially children," he said in a post on his Facebook today.
He also advised all visitors to cooperate by takingf care of public facilities including the area in focus, namely the 'Kids Pool', so that it can be enjoyed by all.
"Therefore, let us set a good example, educate them on the importance of maintaining cleanliness, respecting public facilities and being sensitive to the comfort of others," he added, adding that these small values will shape a more civilised and responsible generation in the future.
Earlier, several photos went viral on social media showing that there was excrement seen near the recreational pool.
Previously, Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor was reported to have said that about 4,500 people were recorded visiting the City Forest to have fun with family and friends, on the opening day.
