INDONESIA EXPORTS TO WEST ASIA CONTINUE AMID RISING FREIGHT COSTS

JAKARTA, March 14 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s exports to West Asia continue as usual despite rising freight costs driven by regional tensions, with demand for Indonesian commodities remaining stable, Trade Minister Budi Santoso said.

However, he said exporters are facing higher logistics costs as shipping routes adjust to security risks and disruptions linked to escalating tensions in West Asia.

“Business players from the Indonesian Export Companies Association (GPEI) informed the government that exports continue despite rising freight charges,” he said, according to ANTARA News Agency.

Meanwhile, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) said tensions in West Asia could potentially affect global trade activity, although the impact on Indonesia’s trade is expected to remain relatively limited.

BPS data showed Indonesia’s exports to West Asia reached about US$9.06 billion, or roughly 3.5 per cent of total national exports.

Major export destinations include the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Oman, with key commodities including palm oil and its derivatives, vehicles and automotive parts, precious metals, and chemical products.
