TAWAU, March 7 (Bernama) -- Eight men, including a foreign national, were detained over a fight at the Sabindo Ramadan Bazaar yesterday, police said.
Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the eight, aged 17 to 34, were arrested at different locations following a report of the incident at 8.37 pm.
“A motorcycle chain suspected to have been used in the fight was also seized.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the fight stemmed from a dispute between two groups, but further investigations are underway,” he said in a statement today.
All eight men will be remanded to aid investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, he added.
Two videos of the fight, lasting 17 and 20 seconds, went viral yesterday, drawing criticism from netizens who urged that such incidents be avoided in family areas, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
