KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the focus for 2026 must be on strengthening projects and programmes that directly benefit the majority of Malaysians.
Anwar said the matter was raised during a meeting with the management of the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), which discussed developments in housing policy, urban development and efforts to enhance the role of local authorities.
The open and constructive discussion touched on various key aspects, including expanding access to affordable housing, expediting project approval processes, improving governance quality and ensuring that all plans are implemented with integrity and accountability in line with the Malaysia MADANI framework, he added.
“The essence of this meeting is crucial in enabling the ministry to formulate more comprehensive and responsive strategic measures to ensure housing planning and community development truly meet the needs of the people, particularly the middle- and lower-income groups.
“Thus, the focus for 2026 must be directed towards empowering projects and programmes for the majority of the people, especially in terms of quality affordable housing, cleanliness of public areas and more systematic waste management,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today.
Also present at the meeting was Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister was also briefed on K.H.A.S (People-centric Priorities, Rapid Results, High-Impact Transformation, Systematic), a KPKT commitment framework to implement reforms that will deliver direct benefits to the people.
K.H.A.S represents the ministry’s policy implementation approach that prioritises the people’s needs, accelerates service delivery, implements high-impact structural changes and ensures transparent and systematic governance.
