RUBIO CANCELS ISRAEL TRIP SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY

01/03/2026 03:35 PM

WASHINGTON, March 1 (Bernama-dpa) -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will no longer travel to Israel as planned, the State Department said on Saturday, citing the current circumstances, reported German news agency dpa.

Rubio would not depart for Israel on Monday as scheduled, a department spokesman said on X, without saying whether the trip would be rescheduled.

The announcement came after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on multiple targets in Iran. US President Donald Trump said the attacks had killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. There was no immediate confirmation from Iran.

Tehran responded to the strikes by targeting sites in Israel and US military bases in the region.
