KOTA KINABALU, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Nine Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) 2025 repeat candidates were evacuated from flood-hit areas in Paitan by the Civil Defence Force to ensure they can continue to attend school.
In a statement today, the Paitan District Civil Defence Office (PDPA) said the operation to transport the students to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Salaping in Kota Marudu was carried out as they faced difficulties leaving their homes, with the main access routes affected by rising floodwaters.
“This operation has a significant impact on the students as it helps prevent them from missing out on lessons and enables them to continue preparing for STPM. Apart from ensuring their safety, it also provides students and parents with peace of mind amid the disaster.
“The effort proves that the support of rescue agencies plays an important role in ensuring the continuity of education despite the challenges posed by natural disasters,” it added.
The operation proceeded smoothly following the coordinated efforts of personnel on duty, who prioritised the safety and welfare of the students throughout the evacuation process.
As of 4 pm, the number of flood victims in Sabah decreased to 3,266 people from 1,401 families, compared with 5,141 people from 2,160 families at 8 am today.
