KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Noh Omar has resigned as Bersatu Supreme Council member, effective today.
In a video clip posted on Facebook, he shared that the decision was taken following actions taken by the party's Disciplinary Board, which he described as not respecting the Supreme Council's decision made on Jan 12 to postpone disciplinary action against members.
He said the council had resolved that action would only be taken against members who made statements contradicting the meeting's decisions, and not statements made before the meeting.
"The question is, why is the Disciplinary Board still taking disciplinary actions against Bersatu members? Does the Board not respect the Supreme Council’s decision? What's the use of the Council, the highest body, meeting, but its decisions are not respected by the Disciplinary Board?
"When the Supreme Council had decided to postpone all disciplinary actions against the members involved, then disciplinary action should not have been taken against those who made statements before the Supreme Council meeting,” he said.
Noh's decision to resign is believed to be linked to the Bersatu Disciplinary Board's action in expelling 17 members, including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, as of yesterday.
According to Noh, the Supreme Council had established a committee to strengthen the party, chaired by Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.
Noh said the committee was supposed to restore unity within the party, but alleged that the Disciplinary Board took action against the members involved before the effort was implemented.
"Yes, every party has the right to take disciplinary actions against any members, but such disciplinary actions must be taken in accordance with the party's regulations and constitution. Nobody is above the law; this is my principle.
"And if the Supreme Council wants to overrule the decision made on Jan 12, and wants the Disciplinary Board to continue taking action, then a special meeting should have been held for the Council to overrule the decision to postpone the disciplinary actions.
"But there was no meeting. The Disciplinary Board just bulldozed its way and took action, including against those who issued statements before the (Jan 12) ruling,” he said.
