BRITNEY SPEARS CANNOT RECLAIM RIGHTS TO HER SONGS UNTIL 2060

MOSCOW, Feb 13 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- United States (US) singer Britney Spears will be able to reclaim the rights to the music catalogue she sold to Primary Wave only when she turns 79, RIA Novosti has discovered after reviewing US copyright laws.

According to US law, notice of termination of a deal can be filed no earlier than 25 years after the contract is signed, but the termination of the transfer of rights only takes effect after the 35-year period has expired, RIA Novosti has discovered.

Therefore, the singer will be able to exercise her right to reclaim the catalogue no earlier than 2060. However, if the songs were co-written, the rights reclamation process could be significantly more complicated.

Earlier this week, US media reported that Spears sold the rights to her music catalogue to Primary Wave for approximately US$200 million. According to the TMZ news portal, the agreement was signed on December 30, 2025. The singer was reportedly pleased with the deal and celebrated the occasion with her children.
