PETALING JAYA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- A furniture factory along Jalan 20/1, Sea Park here was razed today, sending thick smoke over the area and attracting the attention of residents in nearby areas.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said no casualties were reported.
He said they received a call at 1.22 pm and dispatched a fire engine from the Damansara Fire and Rescue Station, which arrived at the scene six minutes later.
"The fire involved a furniture factory measuring an estimated 100 square feet by 50 square feet, with firefighting operations still underway," he said in a statement today.
He said 34 firefighters are involved in the operation, with assistance from the Petaling Jaya, Jalan Penchala, Puchong and Taman Tun Dr Ismail fire stations.
"The firefighting operation also involves four Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, a water tanker, an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) vehicle and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS),” he said.
A Bernama observation found that the thick black smoke could be seen from afar, while members of the public were prevented from getting too close to two nearby petrol stations.
