KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today granted an audience to Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming at Istana Negara.

During the audience, His Majesty was briefed on reports and current developments of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), including the department’s level of preparedness and operational capability in safeguarding public safety and managing emergency operations nationwide.

“Sultan Ibrahim was also briefed on the 2026 International Firefighters Day (IFFD) celebration, scheduled to be held in Johor Bahru in May,” according to a statement on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Joining Nga at the audience were JBPM director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohamad and deputy director-general (Development) Datuk Othman Abdullah.

In a separate statement, the minister said the 2026 IFFD celebration was planned to be held in conjunction with the golden jubilee of JBPM’s unification under the Federal Government, and is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors.

Nga said that during the meeting, he also presented to the King his ministry’s 2025 Report Card, outlining their achievements over the past year.

He said His Majesty congratulated the ministry for its strong performance, including the success of gaining international recognition and the National Development Award.

Among KPKT’s key achievements in 2025 were the delivery of 511,544 affordable housing units, surpassing the 500,000-unit target under the 12th Malaysia Plan, as well as the construction of 26,000 Rumah Mesra Rakyat units to help low-income groups own homes.

The ministry also rebuilt and handed over 18 houses to victims of the gas pipe explosion incident in Kampung Sungai Baru, Putra Heights, within six months.

In addition, to protect buyers’ interests, a total of 1,333 sick and abandoned private and public housing projects were successfully revived, benefiting nearly 160,000 buyers, including the rescue of the Residensi Hektar Gombak project, which had stalled since 2022.
