SAN JOSE (United States), Jan 30 (Bernama-dpa) -- Strong demand for the iPhone 17 during the Christmas shopping season helped Apple post a record quarter, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
The company reported net profit of US$42 billion on Thursday for the quarter that ended on December 27, up just under 16 per cent from a year earlier. Quarterly revenue also rose by around 16 per cent to US$143.8 billion.
The iPhone business jumped 23 per cent year-on-year to a record high of around US$85.3 billion. The company has not disclosed unit sales figures for some time.
According to calculations by market researchers, Apple's iPhone overtook long-time smartphone market leader Samsung in global sales last year.
The figures exceeded analysts' expectations.
Business in China also picked up again after a temporary slump. The share price rose by 2.0 per cent at times in after-hours trading in the United States (US).
