JAKARTA, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has invited world leaders and global figures to attend the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) in Bali this June, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on marine protection and ocean sustainability.
He said this would mark Indonesia’s first time hosting and sponsoring the event, which is being organised in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF).
“I hope to meet many of you in this room in Indonesia,” he said in an address at the WEF 2026, in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, which was telecast live on YouTube.
The WEF Annual Meeting 2026 is being held from Jan 19 to Jan 23 under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue,” bringing together world leaders, economists, academics, experts and practitioners to discuss pressing global economic challenges.
Prabowo said the June summit, among others, would feature Ray Dalio, the founder of non-profit ocean exploration vessel, OceanX.
“Indonesia, being three-quarters sea, we are deeply concerned about the future of our oceans,” he said.
In his address, Prabowo stressed that Indonesia would continue to prioritise peace over chaos, in line with its long-standing non-aligned foreign policy, while remaining a responsible global citizen and good neighbour that lives in harmony with nature.
“One thousand friends are too few for us, and one enemy is too many,” he added.
Prabowo also highlighted the establishment of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, which he said has helped position the country as an emerging ‘land of opportunity’ while supporting sustained economic growth.
He said Danantara had also been allowed to recruit expatriates and foreign nationals to lead key companies in order to improve efficiency and governance and to establish world-class management standards.
Touching on governance challenges, he also coined the term “Greedonomics”, which he described as an economy driven by greed and rapacious practices, in which businesses violate laws, including by bribing government officials to carry out illegal activities.
“I have reports that some of these people say in their meetings, ‘Oh, it's okay, there is no government official who cannot be bought’. Well, I challenge them to try to buy officials from my administration. They will find themselves in for a big surprise,” he stated.
He noted that in his first year in office, his administration had confiscated four million hectares of illegal palm oil plantations and illegal mines, closed 1,000 illegal mining sites and revoked permits for 28 companies operating plantations in protected forest areas.
Prabowo also stressed that his administration would confront corruption directly, firmly and openly.
