NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Cambodia’s withdrawal from the ASEAN Para Games Thailand (APG) 2025 has not affected the national contingent’s targets, with Malaysia still aiming for 181 medals in the biennial Games, according to National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Jefri Ngadirin.

He said the assessment of the contingent’s targets was made after a structured process, with most sports having finalised their plans through their respective team managers’ meetings.

"So far, we have been informed by the Paralympic Council Malaysia (MPM) and the secretariat that our targets have not been affected by Cambodia’s withdrawal.

"The chef de mission has also announced that we aim to win 181 medals throughout our participation in the APG,” he said.

He said this when met after Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol’s visit to Terminal 21 Korat here today, aimed at boosting the morale of the national powerlifting athletes and wheelchair basketball squad.

On another matter, Jefri said early preparations towards the Malaysia 2027 SEA Games and Malaysia 2027 ASEAN Para Games have begun comprehensively through collaboration among various relevant agencies.

He said preparations for para athletes will officially begin in April, while able-bodied athletes will start their preparation programmes earlier, beginning on Feb 11.

Meanwhile, Mordi said his visit to Nakhon Ratchasima was to represent the ministry at the opening ceremony of the Thailand APG 2025, as well as to provide moral support to the national contingent.
