RIYADH, Jan 17 (Bernama-SPA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi welcomed the transition to the second phase of the Gaza agreement, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The GCC also welcomed the formation of a Palestinian National Committee to administer the Gaza Strip during the transitional period, in accordance with international frameworks.

Albudaiwi expressed his appreciation for US President Donald Trump on the Peace Council and the joint mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye to implement the Gaza agreement, emphasising that regional stability depends on a just and comprehensive political path.

He further underscored the importance of empowering the Palestinian National Committee to discharge its duties while securing a permanent ceasefire, halting all violations, and ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to accelerate Gaza's early recovery.

Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the end of the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian territories and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the two-state solution.
