MOSCOW, Jan 16 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, who is soon to travel to the International Space Station on an American spacecraft, has departed for the United States (US), said Russian state space corporation Roscosmos on Friday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev departed for the US to undergo pre-launch training," the corporation wrote on Telegram.

The cosmonaut will train at the SpaceX base in Hawthorne, California, on simulators for the US segment of the International Space Station, practice emergency procedures and take classes on operating the Crew Dragon spacecraft.

Originally, another Russian cosmonaut, Oleg Artemyev, was part of Crew-12, but he was recently moved to a different position, Roscosmos added.

US spacecraft Crew Dragon, carrying Fedyaev, US astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, and European astronaut Sophie Adenot, is scheduled to launch no earlier than February 15.

Until its arrival, only the crew of Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-28 will be working on the station.
