TRIO HELD TO ASSIST PROBE INTO MURDER OF FOREIGN NATIONAL IN SIBU

SIBU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Police have detained three local men to assist in investigations into the death of a foreign national believed to have been involved in a fight at a hotel in the town early this morning.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the three suspects, aged between 27 and 31, will be brought before the Sibu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Jan 16) for a remand application to facilitate further investigations.

“Initial examinations found that all three suspects sustained injuries to their arms and bodies, believed to be linked to the incident. Background checks also showed that none of the suspects have any prior criminal records,” he said in a statement today.

Without disclosing the nationality of the deceased, Zulkipli said police received information at about 4.22 am that a foreign national had been brought to Sibu Hospital in an unconscious state.

“Preliminary investigations found that the 27-year-old victim was believed to have been involved in a fight that occurred at a hotel around the Sibu town area and was confirmed dead at Sibu Hospital due to severe head injuries,” he said.

According to him, the motive of the incident is still under investigation and the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Those with information related to the incident are urged to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the nearest police station.
